Encompassing 71,000 acres of spectacular terrain and wildlife, the park contains beautiful scenic drives, such as the Needles Highway (SD Highway 87) which twist and turn its way around towering rock formations and through narrow tunnels. Some favorite activities include hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, fishing, jeep rides to see the bison, and don't forget the friendly donkeys!
Experience hundreds of wild horses in a place not only where they live but flourish in their home on the grassland, rocky canyons, windswept prairies, and pine forest–a home they share with coyotes, cougar, white-tail and mule deer, elk, wild turkeys, eagles, and falcons.
The clean, clear water of the falls originates about two miles upstream at Cascade Springs, where a series of six artesian springs feed ever-warm (67 degrees) water into Cascade Creek that is ideal for swimming.
